Tekin Signs Josh Wheeler!

August 27th, 2010

Tekin would like to welcome Josh Wheeler to their team!

TekinSignsJoshWheeler!

Josh is one of USA’s premier Expert Class drivers and with the launch of the XRAY 808E there was only one place to come to power up his new Electric 8th Buggy - Tekin USA!!

Josh had already experienced the smoothness of the Tekin Rx8 T8 combination at the 2010 Silver State race where Josh took the TQ position in the  Expert Class and nearly won the main event, but unfortunately had to settle for 2nd after an “incident” with a corner marshal.

Josh will be piloting the latest Tekin powered Xray 808E and Rc Monster Xray 808T at the ROAR 1/8 Nationals hosted at Norcal Hobbies and Raceway soon.

If you’re in the neighbourhood feel free to come over and ask some questions about the latest Tekin products Josh has bolted into his rides!!

For more details check out the Tekin Website for the USA or click – HERE for availiblity in Europe

Great to have you on board.

Team XRAY & Tecnopower 8-10 Series Champions 2010

August 19th, 2010

8-10 Series Celebrations

A long tough season came to an end last weekend for the fantastic 8-10 Series at the Frankley MCC and with it a Championship win for the XRAY 808-2010 Spec car and arguably more important – the very first Championship Series win for the brand new Tecnopower 21B Engine from Rody Roem.

I’ve got to say, the 8-10 Series has been one of the best series i’ve had the pleasure of entering, and it showed with the fantastic support at every round this year from the first round at Coventry right through to the superb Finals at Frankley, almost every round was full to capacity, and the competition stronger than ever, the organisation was top notch and the social scene was cracking all year.

I think everyone who attended this years series will agree it’s been the best, every track deserves a mention and a well done, and i cant remember a single track where we wouldn’t happily want to go to again or where you’d question it being included in the series.  We had Coventry which has got to be one of the countries finest dirt tracks now, and even if it rained there they could simply swap to thier Astro Track, Stoke is a cracking Astro Track, and even since the 8-10 was held there they’ve been working hard to further improve the track because they want a BRCA National there next year (and i totally agree it could host one), Derby track has had a full Astro update and is now a tricky technical track with some fast sweepers and was personally one of my favourites of the year and a mega improvement from the old track – well done guys, Our Welsh crew at Talywain hosted another round after the success of last year and the track is a real technical challenge witha mix of both Astro and grass, and “The Hill” is just legendary… J12 was brilliant with it’s all Dirt super fast and flowing layout, and we got to visit it just after it hosted the BRCA Nationals so it was in great condition (Note – i’m not sure about the on-site campfire, i mean burger van, burning down thou Les!!) and then the last round, the final at Frankley a track soo used to Hosting BRCA Nationals, International Meetings and the Countries most popular Winter Series it needs no introduction to anyone really!!

Combine that with the fact that we had Factory supported Teams from all the main suppliers including - XRAY, Losi, Mugen, Kyosho, Associated, Hong Nor, a couple of HB’s and LRP’s to add to the mix of competition and no doubt a couple of others too… and you can only start to imagine what a great season and series this really has been!!

Oh and did anyone notice it didn’t rain – at all – all season…….Perfect (i’m ignoring the 5 minutes of rain at Stoke btw, rose tinted glasses and all, dont spoil it hey)!!

Anyway, RC Disco entered a small well organised Team with myself (Greg Hill), Leigh Richardson, Carl Richards and Milan Dragojlovic fronting the Team along with a number of other drivers getting support and set up advice including Les Reeder (J12 Track Boss) and the crazy gang from Podium RC to name a few…

With some early season testing we quickly found some decent set-up’s for most tracks and we happily took the challenge to the main contenders, our old buddies over in the Losi camp and the lone ranger it seemed, Steve Childerhouse with his Mugen - race on guys!!!

Over the season the 8-10 series saw many ‘guest’ drivers come and go, it’s often the case at the first round you see some names that dont always continue on, and equally at the last round, maybe we saw some Team tactic’s with some guest drivers appearing from nowhere… some drivers complain about this sort of thing, i think it’s all part of what we do, at the end of the day we race the drivers that attend and we fight (race i mean) for the points that are available on the day, and ultimately over the whole season its really upto you to do the homework, set the cars up and perform on the track on the day… well that’s my view anyway, i’m sure plenty wont agree but it’s done now so it’s too late to complain i guess!!

The season had plenty of twists, turns, what if’s and what only’s, but come the end it all came down to the Finals day at Frankley and being a ”Double Points” round and a massive 720 points up for grabs anything could still happen in the Championship… so would it???

8-10 Series Buggy Champion

Er no…… not really….. er and i kinda pointed that out in the first sentence cause i won ha ha!!!  But it could’ve, in fact going into the Finals day there was a bit of maths going on in the XRAY/Tecnopower Tent checking over the Championship table, the Double Points system, a team talk explained what needed to be done, ie my team block the opposition, let me through, let me win right……  My Team promptly out-qualified me!!

HOBAO

But we’d pretty much achieved the goal, after qualifying we worked out i only needed 1 measly little point from the final to win the Championship, and even then, worst case scenario, Steve (Childerhouse) needed to Win the A Final and i had to come last in the Final for us to ‘tie’ on points forcing a “race off”… i’ve seen it before so i still wasn’t taking anything for granted.

Fortunately for me this didn’t happen and i was able to take home the Championship Win - saying that, i didn’t help myself by installing new fuel tank & exhaust pressure pipes for that meeting that ended up wrapping itself around my flywheel half way through the final causing me to stall several times – see told you it anything could’ve happened - could you imagine how mad you’d be at yourself if that silly mistake lost you the Championship at the very last hurdle??

Phew…. so that’s the season over and at the 4th time of trying, this time, finally, thankfully, the Championship comes home with me…. happy days, really happy days, i’m genuinely super chuffed….

Gotta give a huge shout out to Glyn ‘Maddog’ Morgan for organising the series, you and your team did a fantastic job all year and you never get enough thanks for what you do, so thank you buddy, keep doing it, we’ll definitely be coming back next year… i also wanted to give a big shout to Rody Roem from Tecnopower for helping me this year with the launch of the new engine – you’d be amazed at what development goes into ‘creating’ an engine, so to get one to us and winning in it’s first Championship is something quiet special i can promise you (and there were 3 in the Top 10 btw so something works i guess…) – but thanks Rody much appreciated and well done too!!

And finally to my XRAY Team, not only did we take the Championship but Milan pulled a blinder and stole 3rd overall from the grasps of the Losi camp (sorry guys) and Leigh Richardson ended up 7th – although it has to be said he dropped several points in the final as his gearbox bearings fell apart dropping him out the running early on………  you remember i needed that point??

Tekin wins at Round 5 of ROAR Region 2 1/8th Pro-Series

August 12th, 2010

Tekin 8th EC Win

Team Tekin driver Andy Castellini captures the Electric 8th Buggy TQ & a Nitro Truggy TQ.

He then backed up his TQ runs by winning both the Electric 8th Buggy and the Nitro Truggy A Mains.

All the action was at Hobby Hut Raceway located in Audubon, Pa, as they hosted Round Five of the Roar Region 2 1/8th Pro-Series Races.

The RC8e was powered by a TEKIN RX8 with a 2000KV Tekin Truggy motor. JConcepts Subcultures provided excellent traction on a track that was worn down from a half season on racing and some hard weather.

This is a great result from Andy, good job dude!!

XRAY @ BTCC Round 5 Halifax

August 4th, 2010

Sunday 1st of August saw the penultimate round of the 2010 Schumacher BTCC Series at Halifax.

A strong turn out of racers and big names graced the track on Saturday practice, with times across all three classes looking very tight.

The order for Sunday would be four rounds of qualifying, two to count with the round-by-round system, and two finals. The round-by-round system made qualifying extremely close, however, the Xray T3 took pole, 2nd and 6th in the stock class.

Jonathan Walker took the top spot, Jake Williams was 2nd, narrowly beating Zak Finlay by just 0.01 of a second, with Joshua Walker not far behind in 6th.

The first final saw close action in the top 6, Jonathan made a great start and with Jake having problems with cars behind. Joshua was flying and came up from 6th on the grid to eventually take the leg win after backmarker problems for Jonathan. Jake also recovered to manage 2nd.

The second leg was even closer. Jonathan again made a confident start with himself and Jake pulling a gap between third place. Joshua was struggling to get past the traffic that had done so well in the first leg. On lap four, Jake made a move on Jonathan for the lead, where he remained for the rest of the race, challenged at times by Zak Finlay. After Zak made a small mistake, the race was on for second. Jonathan managed to squeeze past Zak after another small mistake, where he stayed for the rest of the race.

The overall positions were:

1st Jake Williams
2nd Jonathan Walker
3rd Joshua Walker

BTCC Halifax Stock A final

The strength of the Xray really showed at Halifax. All top three positions in Stock and TQ in Mod, proving that the T3 is fast over all classes.

The next round of the Schumacher BTCC is at West London on the 5th of September.

Team XRAY – BRCA 10th Nationals @ Aldershot

July 28th, 2010

XRAY Touring Car Team Photo 2010

The XRAY Touring Car Team ventured down to Aldershot for the latest round of the BRCA Championship, with the Team raring to go we were looking forward to an exciting weekend.

The Aldershot track is very popular and has, like many tracks, an element of local knowledge, and this time we had a bit of that on our side – so we were looking forward to pushing the competition all the way, and picking up some decent points for the Championship challenge.

The Team have continued to work on new style set-ups for the T3 chassis and “lightweight Lipo regulations” brought in this year, and now just before the mid point in the season that hard work is turning into on-track performances so it was great to see the strongest qualifying results in both classes by the Team – and set to continue to the end of the year.

The 10.5 Class has evolved into a super tight class and Speed Control technology is directly effecting the capabilities of drivers to push to the front of the Grid, and equally effecting poor results when Speed Controls and motors bring all the hard work to nothing with none finishes!!

RC Disco has recently claimied the distribution rights to the famous Tekin brand, and the Tekin RS / RS Pro Speed Controls are arguably ‘up there’ with the best availible, and although not an XRAY Team Driver himself, Jonny Bowden (The Defending British 10.5 Class National Champion) choose to run the RS Pro to great effect to take Pole Position and go on to take the Win on Sunday at the first time of using the Speedo!!  The comments reported back are along the lines that Jonny’s car was so fast it could’ve be forgiven for thinking he was running a Modified motor such is the efficient Timing Advance from the Tekin Speedo!!  Hmmm, i’ll look forward to trying those settings in my car…… it’s a world away from when we used to simply ‘Gear Up’ to go faster ha ha!!

Over in the Modified Class, and local XRAY boy Glenn Westwood clocked his fastest run around the Aldershot track closely followed by Phil Chambers & Stefan Chodzynski to put in the XRAY Modified Class’s best result so far. Glenn in particular was pushing for the Win come Finals day, and was unlucky to end up 2nd Overal in what was reported to be a slightly ‘messy’ series of Finals on the tight and technical layout.  Better luck next time dude!!

All in all thou, a great weekend for the Team down at Aldershot, well done guys.

XRAY International 8th A Team @ BRCA Nationals

July 23rd, 2010

Sunday the 18th was Round 5 of the UK National series, the venue being Clanfield which is now a regular in the national calander.

With the very dry weather the UK has experienced over these last few months has led to bone dry tracks which are hard to prep, this led to a slighlty bumpy surface to what we normally expect from Clanfield but still a great track.

XRAY 8th A Team - International Styleeeee

The usual suspect would represent Xray UK in Ralls, Sawyer, Hazelwood & Williams, a slight twist to normal with a bit of arranging our recent Euro’s finalist Jerome Sartel & team mate Davy Bales made the trip from France to sample what the UK had to offer.  Unlike most other national series which is a 2 day event here in the UK its all pushed into 1 day which means little to no practice & a very busy day, its very regimental & runs like clock work but leaves no time.

Davy was plagued with radio trouble for practice & the first round so his event did not start to Rnd 2 when he could then learn the track so was up against it all day.  Bren had solid runs in Rnd 1,2 although the bumpy track caused a marshall for each run costing a top ten finish each time & dissapointing as it would relegate him to 21 & pole in the C.  Jerome & speaking with him found it hard to adapt to this rapid learning of a track which is the norm in the UK to go 20th overal. Many where shocked with this but shows our system can be very tough.  Reece topped the pile with some solid runs to go 6th overall, Jon solved an interferance problem being a broken PT wire to take 8th
overal & our Welsh Wizard Ben Williams took the 10 place making it 3 Xrays straight into the Main..  Bren battled through the C with some big names to take 3rd & a bump
into the B to join Jerome.  For the B Jerome tried a setup experiment for the now rough track which worked for him & from 10th on the grid worked his way slowly through the field to the 2nd spot & a well earned bump up spot. Bren had a good run to work his way to the 8 spot & some good points for his championship campaign.

Jerome used to a delay in the French system was forced to rush a 30 minute relax period into 7 minutes hive of activity just making the start. From the tone the race saw some poor driving with Reece taking the brunt of it & was bashed to last. Jon also took some of this but found some holes to run 6th for a long period til the bumpy track caused a steering bolt to fail. Jerome the wildy Pink Panther was now upto speed with the track & plugged away to take 4th overall. Reece after the bad start collected his composure to battle back to 8th & good point for his campaign. Ben had a good race to finish where he started.

For Xray a good result for the weekend & 4 cars in the main, Jerome commented on how hard he found it as an event with the depth of competition & the speed you have to learn the track in such a short time.

With plans for a return later on in the series it will be good to meet up with old friends again.
