Hara signs for AKA 2012

Multiple World Champion and all round RC legend - Atsushi Hara has signed with AKA tyres for his 1/8th Offroad racing.

Hara who is known for his meticulous preparation and focus won his ‘08 World Championship with Pro-Line and then came 2nd in 2010 without a tyre sponsor clearly shows that he believes AKA’s line of tyres will give him the best possible chance to win again in 2012.

Neobuggy caught up with Hara to get his take on the move – “I chose to race AKA tyres in 2012 because AKA is a company only focused on tyre, it is their core business, so I am sure they will provide me with the best tyres. They are the best option for me to try to get back the IFMAR 1/8 Buggy title in 2012 and I hope to give AKA a back-to-back IFMAR World title.”

RC Disco – the UK AKA Distributor - is looking forward to helping Atsushi Hara at any of the UK events in the future with his AKA tyre supply.

Please check the www.rcdisco.com site for your AKA tyre requirements – order online 24/7

Chadderton RC Raceway – Winter Series 2011/12

November 22nd, 2011

Batley Buggy Club hosted round 2 of the 2011/12 winter series at Chadderton RC Raceway,

With 141 entrants a full day of racing was ahead of the drivers as they arrived at 7:30 on Sunday morning, greeting them was one of the best track to date with a mix of jumps, bumps, carpet and the normal cork flooring.

As the day progressed the racing was some of the best we have seen as the track was flowing and allowed passing easily without causing to many problems.

Craig Collinson the 2010/11 champion returned to this years series for the first time as promptly took both dBoots Tired cars TQ in both 2 & 4wd.

The final came and in 4wd Craig had car problems on lap 1 this leaving Eugene Galley (dBoots Tried) and Stephen Lawson (dBoots Tired) cars to race away with Eugene edging out a little gap lap by lap, both holding station until the end.

Chadderton Round 1 4wd Top 3

In 2wd Craig steering his dBoots Tired car clear of incident and problems to take the win.

Chadderton Round 1 2wd TQ & Winner Craig Collinson

Team XRAY 808-2011 Retains the Title “Race of Champions”

October 7th, 2011

Last weekend saw the 2nd running of the awesome ’Race of Champions’ event taking place at the NNRC track near Blackpool in the North of the country.

The event is the end-of-year ‘Race-Off’ between the Top 20 qualifying drivers from each of the 8th Scale Off Road Regions run throughout the year in the UK - it is the brain child of Glyn Morgan (8-11 series organiser) and is organised to challenge the best drivers from the 8-11 Series, NRS, SRS Series and the Scottish Region.  It is a one-off race and is a great way of pitting each region against each other in a fun, but competative end of season race…

The NNRC Astro-turf/multi-surface Track

NNRC Track

The weather for the practice day was amazing warm sunshine, however for raceday it decided it was winter time… A very wet day lay ahead for the competitors!!

Round 1 got underway regardless of the weather, Colin Brennan (NRS Champion) took his AMMO powered XRAY XB808-2011 to the TQ spot with a conservative but clean run. Round 2 went to Associated’s Craig Drescher (8-11 Champion) after a minor mistake on the last lap by XRAY’s Stuart Mahon (2010 NRS Champion).  Colin followed up his 1st Round performance by taking 2nd place with Stuart taking the 3 spot. Round 3 was a scrappy round, but with “Round by Round” qualifying Stuart was on hand to take the fastest time with his now dialed XRAY XB808-2011.

TQ ended up an AMMO Fuel/XRAY 1-2 with Colin Brennan followed by Stuart Mahon and the young up-and-coming driver Oli Evans taking 3rd.  Old skool RC legend Drescher only managing 6th after a strong start in quali and his Team-mate David Bailey struggling in the B Final with a few other top level drivers.

The B Main saw a very hard fought race by some of the XRAY drivers, Lee Bunker ending up taking the 2nd place bump up spot while Carl Richards was running a solid 4th until an unfortunate engine cut while leaving the pits put pain to his battle for the final bump up spot.  Dave cruised through to the A Final and looked like he just wanted some more track time to compete with “the locals”…

Just before the start of the A Finals the sun finally made an appearance but it wasn’t going to effect the track enough to change tyres, but a nice break all the same!!

Race of Champions 2011…. “Drivers are you Ready”

The first corner went down in regulation order but a bobble on the second from Colin gave team-mate Stuart the lead.  With another bobble which went unseen by the marshall saw Colin drop to a lowly last place. At five minutes in Stuart had taken full advantage of the clear track powering the XRAY 808-2011 to a commanding lead over the hard chasing now free of traffic Drescher. By the halfway point Stuarts lead was up to 12 seconds infront of Craig, were it stayed for the rest of the final.  In the closing couple of laps Colin had battled his way back to 6th chasing hard toward 4th and 5th place – with less than a minute on the race clock Colin took the 4th spot away from Dave Bailey and got within 5 seconds of local lad Oli Evans.

Stu Mahon & XRAY - Winner - 2011 Champion of Champions

Stuart Mahon took the convincing win after driving a near perfect race.  Stuart said after the race that “the car and engine were just perfect in the tricky conditions”

A great result for the Team XRAY – TQ & the Win, well done guys!!

2011 Race of Champions – Final Standings

1st Stuart Mahon (XRAY 808-2011)
2nd Craig Dresher
3rd Oliver Evans
4th Colin Brennan (XRAY 808-2011)

Renaud Savoya has joined Team XRAY

September 9th, 2011

XRAY is very proud to announce that 3x European champion Renaud Savoya has joined Team XRAY.

Reno Savoya Joins Xray

Juraj Hudy, chief designer of XRAY, says:

“Reno is one of the most professional and highly-dedicated European off-road drivers and we both discussed possible cooperation in the past, but due to various circumstances it never happened. The situation for both Reno and XRAY has recently changed and allowed us to set up a cooperation. Reno will play an important role at the R&D team to help with the further development of the 808 platform as well help to provide the technical support at the major events. We are excited to have Reno joining the team.”

The 3x European Champion Reno says about his recent move:

“I’m very excited and motivated to join the XRAY family! They always show huge motivation and ambition for racing, fuelled up by passion and devotion. As we were having different opinions and objectives with my previous sponsor, we decided to break our partnership in a friendly atmosphere. I’m really looking forward to bring XRAY the best results and it will be a pleasure to meet all XRAY customers, present and future! See you soon on the racetracks.”

DBoots Bank Holiday Meeting 28-29 August 2011

September 9th, 2011

Hinckley Remote Controlled Car Club moved venue this season and spent a considerable amount of money investing into a new rostrum/container and facilities for the summer buggy meetings. The track is a grass track which has some man made jumps like table tops and kicker jumps with round flexible pipe track markings.

general_track

RC Disco and Team Durango have supported the club all year long and agreed to provide their support for the inaugural DBoots GP. DBoots tyres have been a very popular choice at HRCCC all season and this race was a perfect way to get everybody onto the excellent tyres. Rules were relaxed with the only control being DBoots tyres front and rear.

Drivers_n_Cars

45 drivers made the trip to Hinckley and the race format was to be held over 2 days starting Sunday morning and finishing Monday afternoon. Open practice was held Sunday morning and the drivers were then grouped into random heats and had 4 runs to get a seeding time. This worked well with drivers allowing each other space and respect to get a run in to get seeded into the qualification heats. Early pace setters were Craig Nutting in 2wd and Craig Collinson in 4wd.

Once practice was over there was a dinner break before the seeded qualifying heats began. After 2 rounds of timed qualifying Craig Collinson looked to be very strong in both classes, giving the new Team Durango DEX210 a competitive grass debut.

There were many people camping at the track overnight so with the BBQ’s on and beer in hand lots of fun was had. There were even some rumours of Justin Beiber making a special cameo appearance! (have you ever seen Thomas Lord and Justin Beiber in the same place at the same time?)

Monday morning saw a dry start to the day albeit very cold and after open practice it was down to the serious business of qualifying again. It was 2 rounds to count for the overall grid position so drivers could throw away Sundays running and concentrate on the task in hand.

It was Craig Collinson in 2wd who had a great battle with Dean Gibbs and Jon Seals. All 3 drivers could take pole position going into the last round of qualifying. With some bad weather during the round it allowed Craig Gibson (our photographer) to grab third on the grid behind Dean and Craig.

In 4wd it was Craig Collinson again who set the fastest time and got pole for the A final. James Ambrose was looking good to grab second on the grid until a last round TQ for Ben Cosgrove snatched that second place away. They lined up Craig, Ben and James for the finals.

During the dinner break we held a concourse competition for all drivers and it was jusged by the catering staff who had never seen RC racing before. The top 3 were Martin Llewlyn-Jones, Craig Gibson and James Baker. Alan Smallwood of A.S Airbrush kindly donated a fully custom painted pit board to the winner of the concourse and the runners up were to receive a free set of DBoots each.

Concourse_Free_Dboots

Top3_Concourse

We also had a very exclusive offer for Juniors where they raced for free and got a free set of DBoots tyres included! We had 5 junior drivers take this up and there was some very close racing action for the Junior titles!

Juniors_Free_Entry_DBoots

The finals had some great racing all the way through with some great overtaking and clean action. Finals were monitored for driving standards and in general they were excellent.

The 2wd D final was taken by Paul Gill who had missed the Sunday and maybe looked a little out of place in the final as he took some very easy wins. Russell Payne had a great last leg to take second over Russell Turner. Max Thorpe finished 5th in this final which put him 3rd overall in the juniors.

The 2wd C final saw some drivers who are not off roaders normally have some exciting racing. Chris O Donghue took the overall win form Michael Wright with Charlie Reardon taking third position. This went down to the last leg and Chris showed off his new high downforce buggy setup (how many wings!!) to take the victory. Alan Marson took second in the juniors by finishing in 6th position in the C.

The 2wd B final was really fantastic. Jon Murphy was very out of position in this final and took all three legs with style, although the second leg saw the pass of the meeting with Jon making a last corner lunge to beat Tom Reynolds to the line by 0.03 of a second! Tom took second overall with Andy Bignell taking third form 8th on the grid!

The 2wd A final was all about Craig Colllinson. The Team Durango driver was in a class of his own taking all 3 legs and the TQ to take the overall DBoots GP 2wd crown. Dean Gibbs chased him very hard but could not do anything about him which left Jon Seals to complete the podium after some ‘hard’ driving in the last leg. Thomas Lord took the TQ and junior win with am impressive 8th in the A.

 2wd_A1_Craig_Collinson

The 4wd B final was very exciting and nearly everyone could win it going into the last leg. It was Mark Thornewill who kept his nerves under pressure to stay consistent and do enough to get the victory. Simon Londors edged out Jamie Cheshire to finish off the podium.

The 4wd A final was (again) all about Craig Colllinson. The Team Durango driver was in a class of his own taking all 3 legs and the TQ to take the overall DBoots GP 4wd crown. Ben Cosgrove took second in all three legs and James Ambrose took third in all three legs. TQ and top junior went to James Baker in 4wd after taking an impressive 4th overall in 4wd.

Domination_Craig_Collinson

The trophy presentation was done after the meeting where all the top 3’s, TQ’s and juniors all received trophies.

trophies

This event was a massive success for HRCCC and DBoots. The tyres worked flawlessly with all drivers feeling very comfortable on them in the dry or the wet. HRCCC would like to thank RC Disco, Team Durango, DBoots and AS Airbrush for their support and we will be back next season for the DBoots GP 2!

AMMO Powered – Kevin Brunsden wins Pro-Line at Slough

August 31st, 2011

Kevin Brunsden AMMO Win @ Pro-line Event 2011

AMMO Team Driver – Kevin Brunsden took home the win at this year’s annual Pro-Line event in Slough - Using the latest development 25% Nitro AMMO Fuel.

During the 1 hour final Kevin slotted into 3rd place after a rough start, and slowly worked his way up to the front.  As time passed Darren Bloomfield & Craig Drescher both ran into troubles and Kevin was right there to take advantage up front.

With Bloomfield retiring this promoted Brunsden into the lead, Kevin had built up a pretty decent gap to Karl Jackson in 2nd who had Jerome Sartel closing in on him in 3rd.

The hour long final is a real test for any racer so to have Kevin choose to run the latest, near-production-ready 25% Nitro AMMO Fuel – and run without any problems is a great sign that the final testing for the 25% Nitro mix is about complete – so watch this space – as we’ll all be needing 25% Nitro next year!!

XRAY & AMMO Fuel – Dave Grunill wins NRS @ Wakefield

July 26th, 2011

XRAY & AMMO Team driver Dave Grunill takes a great win at the recent NRS Round @ Wakefield with the XRAY 808 – 2011 Spec and AMMO 30% Nitro Fuel

Great work Dave!!

See the report below from – http://www.rc-area.co.uk/blog/

This past weekend saw the now “Famous” NRS visit the MMRX track near Wakefield. The track for those than haven’t been is an all dirt affair set in the rolling hills of Yorkshire.  It is a fantastic layout of well profiled jumps, sweeping corners and really fast and flowing sections.  Qualifying saw the good drivers rise to the top as they got used to the track and the dusty conditions with ease, but some “seasoned” racers were struggling.

The A final saw yet again a masterclass of driving from the sponsored drivers and the local lads who know the track inside out.  Dave “The engine Guru” Grunill and Bruce Thompson leaving the field in their wake in the first few laps and building a massive lead over the chasing pack.  Who was headed up by young and upcoming Jonathan Skidmore.  And this is the way it ended with Dave 1st, Bruce 2nd, and Little Skidmore in a very well deserved 3rd place!!

Japanese 8th Nationals Qualifier – Tecnopower B03 Wins!!

June 9th, 2011

Over the last weekend the 2011 Kanto GP qualifying race took place in Kanto, Japan.

Japan Nationals Warm Up All Drivers

Most of Japans top 8th buggy drivers attended the event in preparation for the National Championships coming up. Qualifying saw current National Champion, and Tecnopower Team Driver - Kazuya Tanaka - take TQ with the latest Tecnopower B03 engine installed and performing perfectly on this demanding race track.

Japan Nationals Warm Up Tecnopower B03

The final witnessed former World Champion Atsushi Hara bow out after the half hour mark while running hard to chase the lead group.  Up at the sharp end Kazuya Tanaka’s pace could only be matched by none other 2007 2WD World Champ Hayato Matsuzaki, with the later losing out by only a handful of seconds after an hour long battle.

The pair finished a thrilling 86 lap, hour-long final with Kazuya successfully crossing the line first and taking the win for Tecnopower B03 & Kyosho MP9.

Japanese 8th National Qualifying - Tecnopower B03 Wins

After only signing to run Tecnopower Engines late in 2010 and with the recent release of the all-new Tecnopower B02T & B03 engine ranges, this early season victory against Japans elite is an super impressive achievement – Great work Kazuya & Rody Roem from Tecnopower!!
